The last week of our NZ trip included 3 days hiking the Routeburn Track and just some general fun in and around Queenstown.
Having left the town of Fox Glacier around 10, after already seeing the glacier itself and breakfasting at the Cafe at Lake Matheson, we steered the Tiida further south along highway 6 on our way to Queenstown. A lovely drive: beautiful, remote countryside, stunning mountain passes; and freaky cold Antarctic air along the coast just north of Haast. We’d have loved to dally a little and hit some of the minor sights, but we were do to meet up for our pre-hike meeting at Ultimate Hikes headquarters in Queenstown. The next morning we headed off toward Milford to hit the Routeburn from the south. Our trip with Ultimate Hikes was incredible and highly recommend traveling with them if you want to do some supported walking.
We’ll be following this parade of pix with some more focused entries on specific parts of the trip. As always, we love to hear your comments!
