Demi Fill-Up

This is a shot from a couple years ago. I just spent a little time looking through travel photos and thought I’d post this.

In Italy (and probably lots of other places), people drink their daily wine from big bottles which they can refill at the local wine shop or coop. We were having a couple glasses of wine at a friendly little wine shop in Urbino and saw these jugs piled up by the front door. This was the first place we’d ever heard of refilling wine and buying in bulk. These are called “demi”, short for demi-johns (spelling?) and this particular wineseller would fill these up from giant tanks in the back for anywhere from €1.50-3.00 per liter. Wines included a local white and wines from as far afield as Sicily.

Wish we could do that here.
